About
People often talk about what’s real. But the real world sometimes isn’t what it appears. It’s more diverse, more surprising more difficult to categorize than you’d think. So how do you navigate that minefield with authenticity, with heart and with positivity? That’s where Kathryn Ferguson can help. She’s an award-winning director and documentary filmmaker versed in the conventions of cinema verité. That means she films things in a real way, but not in a low-tech gritty way. As a Film Research Fellow at London College of Fashion she’s developed a style of gorgeous art direction, subtle humour and experimental visuals and choreography that tells the story of people. They’re not the glossed up, glammed up clichés. They’re not the gender stereotypes either. They’re storytellers in all their diversity and contradiction. Many of them are women because women have stories that are yet to be told. Many of them are older too, because old people are just young people but with more stories to tell. They all trust Kathryn with their stories because they know she’ll tell them well.
